Dr. Raffaele Spanò is a Support Technician in the Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine research line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia since July 2019. His research activities focus on the development of Discoidal Polimeric Nanoconstructs carrying thrombolytic drugs (e.g., Tissue-Type Plasminogen Activator) for therapeutic applications in vascular diseases.
In January 2013, he started his Ph.D. in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine under the supervision of Prof. Ranieri Cancedda and Dr. Maddalena Mastrogiacomo. During this period, he worked on the development of a Human Platelet-Rich Plasma-based additive for cell culture, and skin dressings to enhance wound healing. All this work was collected in his thesis titled "Platelet derivatives: from the Laboratory bench to the bedside".
Dr. Spanò achieved his MSc Degree in Applied Science, Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in November 2011 at the Università Degli Studi di Genova, discussing the thesis “Alteration of bone turnover and growth plate in transgenic mice overexpressing Lipocalin-2 in bone”.
