About

Giulia Zoe Zemignani was born in Milan in 1994. She received her BSc (2016) and MSc (2019) degree in Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
Her Master thesis, titled “Chemical Vapour Deposition of Zirconium Disulphate Thin Films”, was carried out as a visiting researcher at Imperial College, London, in the group of Prof. C. Mattevi (2D Materials).

Immediately after the degree, she joined Evonik Industries (Essen, Germany) for a 6 months internship as a scientist in the Coating Additives business line (2020), working on surface modifications and analysis.
She then came back to Italy and worked as an R&D Engineer for a year and a half. During this period, she focussed on the development of water- and solvent-based concentrated pastes for digital printing inks.

Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Italian Institute of Technology (Center for Nano Science and Technology) in the Printed and Molecular Electronics group, under the supervision of Dr. M. Caironi.
Her doctoral project in Bioelectronics aims at the fabrication and study of cell-based biosensors (Electrolyte-Gated Field Effect Transistors) to enable long-term and real-time monitoring and recording of cell cultures in a non-invasive way.
